Ben Carson, the former star neurosurgeon at John Hopkins, is set to announce his candidacy for president on Monday in Detroit where he was born and raised.
The outspoken conservative told Jeff Barnd of Sinclair Broadcast Group that he will disclose his plans at the Detroit Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts.
Carson will join a growing field of Republican candidates vying for the presidency. Besides Carson, Senators Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul have declared their intentions to run. Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush has said that he is “actively exploring the possibility of running for president,” but hasn’t officially declared.
So until Bush comes around to rake the field, Carson will generate a lot of buzz and make a lot of noise.
Speaking of the cacophony that Carson is known for, it’s important to know where he stands on certain issues, right?
I figured that I would put together a list of Carson’s greatest hits before he officially hits the campaign trail.
Obamacare is worst thing since slavery – Carson gave a speech to the Values Voter Summit back in October of 2013. In it, he said that he wasn’t fond of the Affordable Care Act and made a fairly shocking comparison.
“You know Obamcare is really I think the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery.”
The retired neurosurgeon has intimate knowledge of what Obamacare has done or will do to America’s weak healthcare system, but in trying to show just how much he dislikes Obama’s plan, Carson went too far.
Again–Carson is running for president. So expect more of this loud dissonance against Obama.
Prison proves that homosexuality is a choice – Just this past March, Carson made another controversial statement that drew the ire of many. In speaking with CNN, Carson said that homosexuality is a choice because prison changes people.
People “go into prison straight–and when they come out, they’re gay.”
For what it’s worth, Carson did give the obligatory “if I offended anybody” apology. He still asserts that homosexuality is a choice and that science has yet to prove if individuals are born gay or if it is a choice they make later in life.
I don’t know, maybe Carson has been listening to a lot of Tupac lately. On “No More Pain” off of All Eyez On Me, Pac said that “prison ain’t changed me n****, it made me worse.”
Maybe Carson took that as literal?
Because of feminism, police shootings have increased – Ok, he didn’t come out and say that feminism is the exact cause of police shootings but he dang sure came close.
“I hate to say it, but a lot of it had to do with the women’s lib movement. You know, “I’ve been taking care of my family, I’ve been doing that, what about me?”
Between feminism and being black, both have been cursed as the downfall of western civilization. Black people aren’t smart enough to figure out their own problems, and independent women are too dumb to recognize that men hold their key to happiness.
While this one isn’t seismic, it gives a small peek into Carson’s worldview. He believes that a lack of fathers in the black community have eroded it down to a culture filled with individuals void of any type of strong value system.
If men aren’t around to teach boys how to be men, then we’ll continue to have problems of crime in the inner city. So says Carson.
He called President Obama a psychopath. Kind of. – You have to hand it to Carson, he has a way with words, doesn’t he?
In speaking with GQ, Carson likened Obama’s appearance during his State of the Union speech this past January to that of a psychopath.
His friend and business partner, Armstrong Williams, remarked how great Obama looked. Carson disagreed.
“Like most psychopaths. That’s why they’re successful. That’s the way they look. They all look great.”
So not only did Obama inflict a historic slave hell on America with Obamacare, he’s also an arrogant antisocial loser who lacks an ability to empathize.
He didn’t specifically call Obama a psychopath but he didn’t not either, get it? Yeah, me either.
Carson will likely try to stray away from this one when he’s asked about it on the trail.
Data changes peoples minds in medicine, not politics – Carson talked to evangelical Christians in Des Moines back in November, and in his speech, he said something that should be played over and over when he hits the trail.
“The wonderful thing about medicine, when you show data, it changes people’s minds. That doesn’t happen in politics.”
Uh-huh.
Mr. Carson was asked about global warming and basically called it irrelevant. He said that we’ll always “be either cooling or warming.”
With that logic, there’s no need to explore the notion of global warming, is it?
To his credit, he did say that “we have an obligation and a responsibility to protect our environment.” Whether that is through the data presented via global warming or not, Carson will fix it.
He wants the Environmental Protection Agency to work closely with businesses to find better ways to help the environment, because, you know, businesses know all.
Again–this cat is announcing his run for president in Detroit on Monday.
